Cold Fusion is a three-part acne treatment combining glycolic acid, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Few acne treatments contain these three active ingredients in separate steps. Even so, we don’t recommend this skincare line.
Cold Fusion is produced and marketed by Evolution-X. Overall the company does not appear professional. For one thing, their website doesn’t provide data from research on Cold Fusion. Instead it refers visitors to a book – a book that they need to pay for!
What is the Cold Fusion treatment?
Cold Fusion marketers explain that using salicylic acid or another active ingredient in more than one acne product seems odd. For example, why would you use a toner and a lotion with salicylic acid? Is the salicylic acid in one product not effective on its own? Each step of the Cold Fusion treatment uses a different active ingredient.
- Step one is a cleansing gel with salicylic acid and the more natural version of salicylic acid, white willow tree extract. These active ingredients help to clear pore openings and dissolve oil and bacteria.
- Step two is a toner with glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid derived from fruit. It helps to reveal a fresh layer of unblemished skin.
- Step three is a benzoyl peroxide gel. It’s a biocide or germkiller.
Would you recommend Cold Fusion acne treatment?
At first glance Cold Fusion seems to be onto something. It makes sense to include various acne fighters in separate steps. However, Cold Fusion doesn’t publish the concentrations of its active ingredients. There’s no way to know the products’ potencies.
Since the other ingredients aren’t listed either, we also don’t know how Cold Fusion moisturizes the skin. It might be overly drying, especially with the three rather harsh active ingredients. We also don’t know whether it contains substandard ingredients such as mineral oil. (Mineral oil is a petroleum product that has no business on your skin.)
You have plenty of other options for effective acne treatment. Some good products to check out include Clear Skin Max, Derma Cleanse and Exposed. You could also complete a questionnaire at the Skin ID website to get a customized set of acne treatment products.
